Content Provider for Building Information Modeling (BIM) Courses

Extended Education seeks an expert in Building Information Modeling (BIM) to work with our in-house curriculum design experts to develop curriculum for two courses, Building Information Management (EEAS 0134) and BIM in the Field (EEAS 0136)

Responsibilities:

The Content Provider will work with the Design and Production team, which includes an instructional designer and production team. It is expected that the content provider will be available for virtual meetings with the Design and Production team during the development.

During the design phase of development, the content provider will work with an instructional designer to develop course blueprints with unit-by-unit learning outcomes; course outlines and course schedules; assessment overviews, as well as individual assignments and rubrics. During the production phase of the development, the content provider will write the content, which is comprised of units and activities for online and face-to-face delivery. If media pieces are required, they will be developed during this phase. The content provider is also required to complete a mid-point review, as well as a final review of the courses.

Course information:

Building Information Management (EEAS 0134); 24 contact hours

This course focuses on aspects of BIM adoption that are critical towards management of people, interdisciplinary BIM teams, information, and digital models themselves. BIM is examined within different project delivery types, and emphasis is given to defining project goals and roles and responsibilities of interdisciplinary project teams. Processes and practices discussed include the creation of the BIM Execution Plan (BEP), utilizing the BIM Contract Appendix, establishment of the Common Data Environment (CDE), and determining Level of Development (LOD). Important considerations regarding best practices for information management and exchange, and coordination with all disciplines during design phases are emphasized. Pre-requisites for this course are BIM Fundamentals I & II.

Qualifications:

Applicants must have a minimum of five years of experience managing BIM projects, and project teams.

Applicants will have experience utilizing various BIM processes and practices, such as BIM Execution Plans (BEP), BIM Contract Appendix, Common Data Environment (CDE), and determining Level of Development (LOD). Applicants will have experience managing inter-disciplinary BIM project teams and can articulate best practices for project success. Assets for this position include knowledge of the Canadian Practice Manual for BIM (buildingSMART Canada), the BuildingSMART Professional Certification Program and Learning Outcome Framework, ISO 19650, and BIM workflows through the project lifecycle; as well as an excellent understanding of BIM data archiving and the BIM landscape both nationally and globally. Applicants must have an undergraduate degree, or an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Applicants must possess excellent writing skills, the ability to complete tasks on schedule, and have strong communication skills. Assets include experience in the development of courses and/or teaching, affiliation or involvement with a recognized professional body for BIM, and completion of a recognized BIM certification course.

BIM in the Field (EEAS 0136); 12 contact hours

This course unpacks what BIM looks like on the project site and how BIM is used in conjunction with the office. The course discusses the effects and benefits of reality capture on site and how these techniques are used to enhance design and installation information. The efficiency of utilizing mobile devices on site for communication is demonstrated, and the increased accuracy of using digital models for setting out on site is highlighted. Pre-requisites for this course are BIM Fundamentals I and II.

Qualifications:

Applicants must have a minimum of five years of experience working in the AEC Industry and experience managing BIM projects on site. Assets for this position include knowledge of the Canadian Practice Manual for BIM (buildingSMART Canada), the BuildingSMART Professional Certification Program and Learning Outcome Framework, and ISO 19650; as well as familiarity with the benefits of BIM for off-site manufacturing and an excellent understanding of the BIM landscape both nationally and globally.

Applicants must have an understanding of BIM tools, competencies, and in-demand skills. Applicants must have an undergraduate degree, or an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Applicants must possess excellent writing skills, the ability to complete tasks on schedule, and have strong communication skills. Assets include experience in the development of courses and/or teaching, affiliation, or involvement with a recognized professional body for BIM, and completion of a recognized BIM certification course.
