Carleton’s CIMS (Carleton Immersive Media Studio) Digital Twin (CDT) platform is an award-winning, open-source, web-based tool designed to connect geospatial (GIS) and building information modeling (BIM) data.
Open Data: The platform allows users to visualize and manage assets across the built environment without needing specialized proprietary software, and access to multi-scale geospatial information systems (GIS), open data, open building information modeling (BIM), and various other types of digital media.

Stephen Fai is a full professor at the Azrieli School of Architecture & Urbanism. Carleton University in Ottawa, Canada. He holds a professional undergraduate degree in architecture (Carleton University, 1990) and a Master of Arts and PhD in Religious Studies (University of Ottawa, 1996 and 2006).
Dr. Fai served as the co-chair of the PhD and MAS programs from 2013 to 2025. He has also served as the acting director of the school of architecture (2002–2004), director (2004–2005), and associate director of graduate programs (2006–2010). Professor Fai is cross-appointed to the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, the Institute for Comparative Studies in Literature, Art and Culture, and the multidisciplinary Master of Human-Computer Interaction.
He has been the director of the Carleton Immersive Media Studio (CIMS) since 2007. CIMS is a multidisciplinary research unit that addresses theoretical and applied research questions related to the integration of digital technologies in the architecture, engineering, construction, owner-operator (AECOO), and heritage industries.
