Summary

Information Management, as defined by ISO 19650 is now widely recognized as the key to successfully managing the delivery and operations of built assets for their entire lifecycle. The Information Management Navigator application assists all project stakeholders in understanding and complying with the complex and interrelated processes required to fully take advantage of ISO 19650.

Problem

To achieve the potential productivity gains and cost savings that come from Information Management with the adoption of ISO 19650, all stakeholders must align, actively participate, and execute their responsibilities under the standard.

Today, however, for most Owners, Consultants, and Contractors, the understanding of the true scope of ISO 19650 is limited and adoption of the standard is restricted to the “collaborative production of information”, particularly the production of graphical models using BIM. There remains limited industry adoption of core concepts and requirements including:

  • Organizational, Project, Asset, and Exchange Information Requirements
  • Establishing information management responsibilities for each stakeholder (Appointing Party, Lead Appointed Party, etc.)
  • Establishing information management standards for all stakeholders
  • Establishing Common Data Environments for all stakeholders

ISO 19650 its processes and requirements are not easy for the average industry participant to understand or implement. Despite a wide range of publications and industry guidance documentation IM practitioners struggle to demonstrate IM processes and requirements holistically to stakeholders from Executives to Engineers/Contractors in the trenches of project work.

True adoption requires these processes to be easy to understand, implement, and critically the data these processes generate and depend on must be connected for the full value to be achieved.

Solution

The Information Management Navigator application assists all project stakeholders in understanding and complying with the complex and interrelated processes required to fully take advantage of ISO 19650.
