Chandos' mission is to be the most innovative and progressive contractor in Canada. Our team prides themselves on living our brand promise to ‘see things differently’ as a means of delivering exceptional value to our clients through innovation. Quite simply, we believe that we build better together.

Currently, we have offices in Edmonton, Red Deer, Calgary and Vancouver. We offer all of the advanced Chandos building practices in each office including BIM and we are able deploy it effectively on a range of construction projects in each geography. Our culture is aligned by one goal – to identify and deliver the best value to all stakeholders. We are excited to constantly push the boundaries of innovation and performance; BIM provides us with a strong foundation to constantly improve our practices, increase knowledge on different aspects of a project and build respect within the team dynamics.

CHANDOS and BIM

We dove head first into the world of BIM on our IPD project with Red Deer Catholic Regional Schools which we started in November 2014. Our mandate from day one on this project was to utilize BIM to its fullest extent on the project. This made for an incredibly steep learning curve for the entire design and construction team, most of whom had no previous experience with BIM. The team persevered together on this pursuit into the unknown and quickly became skilled in using the technology for advanced practices like collaborative clash coordination, VDC, layout, prefabrication and as built information and to date have accomplished remarkable performance metrics on the project. BIM plays an important role on our IPD projects as it enables the team to accomplish the collaborative processes in design and construction required by typical IPD contracts. As we gain further expertise utilizing BIM in the IPD environment we discover different ways to integrate BIM into other parts of our organization.

Combining Traditional and Modern Practices at CHANDOS

There are many situations on our IPD projects that we combine the best of traditional practices to make our modern approaches successful. For example, in planning and schedule scopes of work we utilize the discipline and detail of work structures and critical path data combined with the collaborative approach of a VDC meeting to engage the team with the model for that work scope. Traditional practices are the result of many decades of experience so it is important that project teams understand the key concepts and apply them to the modern practices to achieve the best results on projects.
