The Toronto CanBIM Awards were followed up the next day with a jam-packed agenda of technology focused presentations and panels. Of special note, was the Owners Panel Discussion, which hosted a variety of opinions from Canada’s Owner stakeholders and their perspective on the value of BIM. Also of note was the Keynote Presentation by Gordon Kurtenbach, Head of Research at Autodesk an insightful presentation about “The Digitization of Everything”

Erik A. Poirier, Ph. D., M. Eng., B. Sc. Arch., LEED AP Chair, Communications Committee, buildingSMART Canada Postdoctoral Fellow, University of British Columbia states about the Owners Panel Discussion “I believe that the session: “Calling All Owners!” was hugely successful due to the variety of panelists involved and the depth of their knowledge on the topic at hand. We were able to quickly delve into the challenges that owners are facing when going down a BIM-enabled project delivery process and transitioning to BIM-enabled asset lifecycle management. On the other hand, we got to witness Owners who see the benefits and are increasing moving towards BIM. I believe that the key take away from this session is that Owners are aware of BIM and that the industry needs to get ready for mandatory BIM-based deliverables on an increasing number projects across Canada.”

CanBIM concluded its Regional Session with its 6th Certification Ceremony handing out 13 certifications on October 6th, bringing the list of total Certified to date by CanBIM to 149 recipients.
