Toronto (September 20, 2018) – The Canada BIM Council (CanBIM) Announced the Winners for the 2018 Innovation Spotlight Awards as part of the CanBIM Toronto Regional Session: Technology Built Innovation: Smart Cities (Sept 19-20).
CanBIM celebrated its 10th year in big fashion. The entire event was a resounding success with many new relationships forged, amazing networking opportunities, and some thought-provoking presentations with great insights into the future of the Architecture, Engineering, Construction and Owner/Operator industry (AECOO), and last but certainly not least, to cap off the event, was the CanBIM Innovation Spotlight Awards Dinner and Presentation, where CanBIM recognized the many leaders in the AECOO industry.
On September 19th, CanBIM Board named two new Members to the Board of Directors. Ivanka Iordanova, Innovation and VDC Director Pomerleau and George Ikonomakis VDC Professional have been involved and contributing to the CanBIM community for the last 10 years and are excited to join the Board and continue their involvement and contribution to the advancement of technology adoption in the AECOO industry.
On September 20th, attendees were treated to some amazing presentations from Global thought leaders and innovators about the future of Smart Cities. All presentations were noteworthy in their own right and offered a diverse collection of ideas and commentary on where the AECOO's digital transformation is headed. Of special note, was IBI Group CEO, Scott Stewart's presentation The Smart City Sandbox. The Smart City Sandbox is a global accelerator with a home base in a city (Toronto) that has emerged as a world leader in the development and adoption of smart city technologies. It will invite applications from SMEs and start-ups to participate in specific cohorts related to mobility, living, energy, healthcare, and other urban themes, with the goal of creating solutions focused on the needs of the community.
Mark Majewski's presentation from Ontario Centre of Excellence (OCE), was an eye-opening look at the state of our Innovation Economy....and why the world is moving towards key innovations such AI, Blockchain, and 5G, which are radically accelerating innovation and business - Mark provided a riveting presentation explaining the importance of creative culture, and the importance it plays in developing an Innovation Economy if we are to maintain a sustainable advantage.
CanBIM closed the event with its 4th Annual, Innovation Spotlight Awards Dinner and Presentation. The 2018 Award was designed through Turner Fleischer Architects in-house "Design-Design" competition; the winning design was created by Calvin Fung, Intern Architect.
Top honours went to Carleton Immersive Media Studio (CIMS) for their innovative work on the Library of Parliament project. The Library of Parliament building information model captures one of Canada’s most significant heritage monuments. Developed through a research partnership between Public Services and Procurement Canada and the Carleton Immersive Media Studio, the Library BIM project is CIMS most complex BIM project to date. CIMS objective has been to create an accurate and detailed heritage record as well as capture the sense of awe that this building inspires.
Special mention goes to IBI Group for winning both the Owners and Facility Management Award and the Technology Award for their innovative InForm Office Asset Management Solution, which is a cloud-based platform designed to serve the needs of corporate facilities managers. A modular solution which allows organizations to plan and manage space, as well as track and monitor all interior assets.
CanBIM recognizes industry leaders in eight (8) award categories: Technology, Academics, General Contractors, Trades, Design & Engineering, Owners & Facility Management, International, Trailblazer (Volunteer of the Year) and Professional Achievement. Top honours are presented to the Best In Innovation, candidates for this category were selected from the winners of each of the award categories.

Toronto (20 septembre 2018) - Lors de sa séance régionale des 19 et 20 septembre 2018 à Toronto, CanBIM, Le Conseil BIM du Canada, a annoncé les gagnants des prix Innovation Spotlight 2018.
Cette année, CanBIM fête son dixième anniversaire de façon spectaculaire. L’événement a été un grand succès avec de nombreuses nouvelles relations professionnelles, des possibilités de réseautage exceptionnelles et des présentations stimulantes qui ont permis de mieux comprendre l’avenir de l’industrie de l’architecture, de l’ingénierie, de la construction et des propriétaires / exploitants (AECOO). De plus, pour couronner l'événement, au dîner et à la présentation des prix Innovation Spotlight, CanBIM a reconnu les nombreux leaders de l'industrie AECOO.
Au 19 septembre, le conseil d'administration de CanBIM a nommé deux nouveaux membres au conseil d'administration : Ivanka Iordanova, Directrice Innovation et VDC de Pomerleau, et George Ikonomakis spécialiste VDC. Depuis 10 ans, ils sont activement impliqués à la communauté CanBIM, et ils sont enthousiastes à l'idée de rejoindre le conseil d'administration et de continuer leur implication et leur contribution à l'avancement de l'adoption de la technologie dans l'industrie AECOO.
Le 20 septembre, les participants ont pu assister à des présentations étonnantes de leaders d'opinion et d'innovateurs mondiaux sur l'avenir «Villes intelligentes». Toutes les présentations ont été remarquables et ont offert une collection variée d'idées et de commentaires sur la direction de la transformation numérique de l'AECOO. À noter, la présentation du chef de la direction d'IBI Group, Scott Stewart, intitulée Smart City Sandbox. Smart City Sandbox est un accélérateur mondial dont le siège social se situe dans une ville (Toronto) et qui est devenu un chef de file mondial dans le développement et l’adoption de technologies de villes intelligentes. Il invitera les candidatures de PME et de start-ups à participer à des cohortes spécifiques liées à la mobilité, à la vie, à l'énergie, à la santé et à d'autres thèmes urbains, dans le but de créer des solutions axées sur les besoins de la communauté.
La présentation de Mark Majewski du Centre d'excellence de l'Ontario (OCE) a été un regard révélateur sur l'état de «notre économie de l'innovation et sur les raisons pour lesquelles le monde évolue vers des innovations clés telles que AI, Blockchain et 5G». Mark a donné une présentation captivante où il a montré l'importance de la culture créative : elle joue une rôle importante dans le développement d'une économie de l'innovation si nous voulons conserver un avantage durable.
CanBIM a clôturé l'événement avec son 4e dîner annuel et sa présentation des prix Innovation Spotlight. Le prix 2018 a été conçu dans le cadre du concours interne «Design-Design» de Turner Fleischer Architects. Le design gagnant a été créé par Calvin Fung, architecte stagiaire.
Les plus grands honneurs ont été décernés à Carleton Immersive Media Studio (CIMS) pour son travail novateur sur le projet de la Bibliothèque du Parlement. Le modèle d’information sur les bâtiments de la Bibliothèque du Parlement représente l’un des monuments historiques les plus importants du Canada. Développé dans le cadre d'un partenariat de recherche entre Public Services et Procurement Canada et le Carleton Immersive Media Studio, le projet BIM de la bibliothèque est le projet BIM le plus complexe du CIMS à ce jour. L’objectif du CIMS a été de créer un dossier patrimonial précis et détaillé et de capter le sentiment de crainte que ce bâtiment inspire.
Une mention spéciale revient à IBI Group pour avoir remporté à la fois le prix Owners and Facility Management et le Technology Award pour sa solution innovante InForm Office Asset Management : une plate-forme cloud conçue pour répondre aux besoins des gestionnaires d’installations d’entreprise. Une solution modulaire qui permet aux organisations de planifier et de gérer l'espace, ainsi que de suivre et de surveiller tous les actifs intérieurs.
CanBIM reconnaît les chefs de file de l'industrie dans huit (8) catégories de prix: technologie, milieu universitaire, entrepreneur général, commerce, conception et ingénierie, propriétaires et gestionnaires d'installations, international, pionnier (bénévole de l'année) et rendement professionnel. Les plus grands honneurs sont présentés au Best In Innovation, les candidats de cette catégorie ont été sélectionnés parmi les gagnants de chacune des catégories de prix.
