The Toronto office is seeking a Design Technology Specialist focusing on BIM, computation and digital practice. The role of the Design Technology is to develop, promote, implement, support and strategize with the individual studios of an office. This position will require expert level proficiency in the proposed computation software, BIM authoring and coordination software, with a focus on Grasshopper, Dynamo and Revit. The Design Technology  Specialist will act as a mentor to project teams on the best practices of moving through the lifecycle of a project.  They will advise Project Architects and Project Managers, and works with as well as manages expectations on multiple teams.

Your Role

Reporting directly to the Toronto Design Technology Manager, you will use your soft skills, relationship building and technical expertise to drive with confidence process innovation, optimization and digital workflows / platforms creation and implementation in partnership with your fellow project members and in collaboration with the Regional Design Technology Team. Ultimately, we believe that this role is a key contributor to delivering the highest value and best outcomes to our clients.

What You Will Do

  • Able to research solutions to either artistic, or technical, issues when they arise.
  • Expert knowledge of BIM applications such as Revit, Dynamo, and familiarity with Grasshopper or Python are a plus
  • Consult project teams on design and delivery workflows utilizing multiple digital design technology and platforms
  • Educate staff to learn computational design software platforms, design process and design management
  • Document case studies to demonstrate the value of computational design
  • Conduct research and develop new Design Technology workflows
  • Facilitate Design Technology training (new employee/continuing education)
  • Coach and support studios and individuals
  • Responsible for researching, developing, documenting and delivering computational methods and design solutions
  • Develop digital design tools and libraries for design teams.
  • Execute and deliver repeatable analytics, and design solutions.
  • Ability to design and generate data visualization.
  • Establish documented processes, procedures and workflows
  • Manage project templates, model management and content development
  • Support development and compliance with the approved BIM Execution and BIM Scope Plans
  • Responsible for the development, coordination, publication, and verification that all necessary configurations required for seamless integration of design and construction model information have been implemented
  • Aid teams in BIM management
  • Assist teams in confirming that the four areas of Design Technology are used appropriately to test design requirements/criteria for functionality

Your Qualifications            

  • Undergraduate or Master’s degree in Architecture, Interior Design or equivalent, with at least 3- 5years of experience in design practice
  • Expert knowledge of and proven practical background in Autodesk Revit Architecture and related Building Information Modeling software
  • Familiarity with other Design and Visualization applications such as Cloud Rendering), Enscape, VRay, Navisworks, FormIt, etc.
  • Articulate communicator able to convey Design Technology concepts to all levels of design and delivery professionals
  • An entrepreneurial spirit who embraces change and constantly seeks out new opportunities for creativity and innovation
  • Demonstrate a reliable, responsive and positive work ethic with the highest degree of integrity
  • Ability to exercise judgment and discretion and to set priorities and manage competing demands
  • Demonstrated ability to develop learning material, deliver effective training and provide ongoing education and support to Revit project teams
  • Punctual, able to adhere to deadlines, and have a strong work ethic.
