Biographie

Andrea Lee is certified as a Specialist in Construction Law by the Law Society of Ontario and a partner of Glaholt Bowles LLP, a leading Canadian construction law firm. Andrea is a Fellow of the Canadian College of Construction Lawyers and immediate past Chair of the OBA, Construction and Infrastructure Law Section.

Andrea obtained her Bachelor of Architecture from the University of Toronto and a Bachelor of Law from Queen’s University. She obtained her RICS Diploma in Adjudication in 2020.

Andrea practices exclusively in construction law. She acts for owners, contractors, design professionals and insurers in a variety of proceedings including litigation and arbitration involving liens, trust claims, delay claims and professional negligence. Andrea regularly advises parties in the industry with respect to construction contracts and professional design agreements.

Andrea is a co-founder of the construction law course at Queen's University and teaches construction law as part of Osgoode's LL.M program. She is also a skills instructor at The Advocates' Society. Andrea regularly speaks at programs offered by the legal and industry associations, published articles and papers on construction law topics and co-authored chapters focused on design professionals in Halsbury's Laws of Canada, Construction and Review of Construction Law: Recent Developments. Andrea has also co-edited the recent update to Bidding and Tendering, What is the Law? (6th edition).

Andrea is a member of the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada, Practice Support Committee. She is a mentor to young lawyers through the Federation of Asian Canadian Lawyers and the OBA Mentorloop program. She has been recognized by Lexpert, Who's Who Legal, Benchmark Litigation and Best Lawyers.

Karen Groulx

Partner, Dentons Canada LLP

Karen is a partner at Dentons Canada LLP in our Construction, Litigation and Real Estate groups. Her practice includes negotiation and drafting of various types of construction documents on behalf of owners and general contractors as well as dispute resolution and litigation involving the awarding of contracts, construction liens and related proceedings on behalf of owners, general contractors and subcontractors as well as mortgagees. Karen handles trust and bond claims, negligence claims and contract claims including claims relating to construction defects, product liability and other disputes such as professional negligence claims, engineers and architects liability cases.

Karen has particular expertise in E-Discovery in the context of litigation matters as well as in the context of the preparation of records retention and records management policies.

Karen is a founding member of the Sedona Canada Working Group on Electronic Document Retention and Production in Canada. Sedona Canada is a member of the Sedona Conference®, an internationally recognized nonpartisan law and policy think-tank based in Sedona, Arizona. She was also a member of the Electronic Discovery Sub-Committee of the Task Force on the Discovery Process in Ontario, which produced the Guidelines of the Discovery of Electronic Documents in Ontario. Karen was a member of the Ontario Bar Association Executive for Construction and Infrastructure Law Section. She is a member of The Advocates’ Society and has co-chaired Construction Advocacy Programs for The Advocates’ Society for the past couple of years.

Jason Lewis

Jason is currently a Chair of the Building Transformations Project Delivery & Risk Management Think Tank. Jason regularly speaks at programs offered by legal and industry associations and has delivered lectures to students at Osgoode Hall Law School and McGill University.

Jason graduated with Common and Civil Law degrees from the University of Ottawa in 2007 and was called to the Ontario Bar in 2008. Prior to commencing his legal studies, Jason received a Bachelor of Arts degree from McGill University in 2002. Before joining Lafarge, Jason practiced with one of the world's leading professional engineering services firms. He has also practiced Construction Law and Land Development law with a global real estate development company, was an associate at a boutique land development firm in Toronto and started his career at the Regional Municipality of Halton.

Paul Stocco

Practice Group Leader, Brownlee's Construction Group

Partner Paul Stocco, practice group leader of Brownlee’s Construction Group, focuses on construction litigation and procurement, representing owners, general contractors and sub-contractors at all levels of Court in Alberta and Ontario. Paul assists clients in drafting procurement documents, including tendering and requests for proposals (RFP) documents, construction management, consulting, design build, integrated project delivery, building information modelling, lump sum, and public-private partnership (P3) agreements. He also assists clients with builders’ liens, performance bonds, and labour and material payment bond claims. Paul is a board member of various construction industry organizations. He writes and lectures widely on all aspects of construction and procurement law.

Lampros Stougiannos
